b. Demonstrate how to use a dishwasher or demonstrate how to clean pots and pans in the sink.
c. Demonstrate how to use a vacuum cleaner.
Complete three of the following four units:
1. Carpentry
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools that you have used.
b. Repair or make an item, e.g. a wooden toy, jigsaw, rack or letter holder.
2. Metalwork
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools
such as a ballpein hammer, screwdriver, pliers, tin snips, hand drill or
file.
b. Repair or make an item such as a small scoop, dustpan or tin box.
3. Gardens and Lawns
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools
such as a rake, spade, fork, small hand tools, watering can, wheelbarrow
and hose.
b. Prepare an area for a garden bed with the removal or relocation of soil and rocks and the appropriate use of garden tools.
4. Household
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools such as scissors, knives, sewing needles, or pins and thimbles.
b. Repair or make hand sewn items to include two of the following skills - re-sewing of a button, stitching a seam, darning a small hole in knitwear or hemming the edge of a garment or napkin.

- a. Demonstrate the procedures for turning off the household electricity, water and gas.
b. Explain the causes of a leaking tap or pipe and explain how it can be repaired. Show the examiner how to unblock a sink or water basin drain.
c. Iron an article of clothing.
Complete three of the following four units:
1. Carpentry
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools
such as a claw hammer, saw, bench vice, screwdriver, hand drill, wood
plane, clamp, glue gun, sandpaper, filler and paint brushes for acrylic
and turpentine base paints.
b. Repair and paint a wooden article or a vertical surface such as a stool, chair, large toy, door or wall.
2. Metalwork
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools
such as a ballpein hammer, screwdriver, pliers, tin snips, hand drill,
file, pop riveter, hacksaw, tube or box spanner, or a soldering iron.
b. Repair or make an item using sheet metal with solder or pop rivets.
3. Gardens and Lawns
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools
such as a rake, spade, fork, hoe, shovel, small hand tools, wheelbarrow,
edge trimmer, secateurs, pruning saw, watering can, hose and a petrol
or hand driven lawn mower.
b. Repair or make garden plant supports and demonstrate lawn mowing and pruning of overgrown shrubs.
4. Household
- a. Demonstrate the safe use, cleaning and on-going care of tools
such as scissors, knives, sewing needles, or pins, thimbles, cooking
knives, sewing machine or cleaning materials.
b. Repair or make an article using a sewing machine.
